Lightfield Agent in Slack

Last updated: June 29, 2026

The Lightfield Agent is now available in Slack. You can chat with the agent directly from Slack to ask about your CRM, look up records, get updates, and take actions - without leaving your workspace.

What it is

The Lightfield Agent in Slack is the same assistant you use in the Lightfield app, available as a Slack bot. Message it like you would any teammate and it can answer questions about your accounts, contacts, opportunities, and more, and help you get work done from where your team already talks.

How to use it

Setting up the agent happens in two steps inside the Lightfield app - first your workspace connects Slack, then you connect your own account. Once both are done, the Lightfield bot appears in Slack and you can chat with it.

Step 1 - Connect Slack for your workspace (admin)

This is a one-time setup done by a workspace admin.

  1. In Lightfield, open Settings → Integrations (under the Workspace section).

  2. Find Slack and click Connect.

  3. Approve the requested permissions in Slack.

  4. When you return to Lightfield, Slack shows as Connected.

Until an admin completes this step, individual users can't connect their own accounts.

Step 2 - Connect your personal account

Each user does this for themselves.

  1. In Lightfield, open Settings → Notifications (under the Account section).

  2. At the top, find the Slack card and click Connect.

  3. Approve in Slack. You must connect to the same Slack workspace your organization connected.

  4. Slack shows as Connected in Lightfield.

If the Connect button is disabled and you see "Your workspace admin needs to connect Slack in Integrations first," ask your admin to complete Step 1.

Step 3 - Start chatting in Slack

After you connect your personal account:

  • The Lightfield app appears in Slack under Apps in your sidebar.

  • You'll receive a welcome message from the bot confirming you're set up.

  • Open a direct message with Lightfield under Apps and ask a question, look up records, update data, or get notifications - right from Slack.

Existing Slack users need to update the connection

If your workspace connected Slack before the Lightfield Agent in Slack feature launched, the integration was set up only for notifications and needs updated permissions before the agent will work.

A workspace admin should:

  1. Open Settings → Integrations.

  2. Under the connected Slack integration, look for the callout: "Update Slack permission to fully integrate Slack with Lightfield."

  3. Click Update permission and approve the new permissions in Slack.

This re-authorizes the existing integration without disconnecting anything. Once the admin updates the permission, users can connect (or already-connected users can use) the agent in Slack.

Use the Lightfield bot under "Apps", not "External Connections"

Always message the Lightfield bot listed under Apps in your own Slack workspace.

You may also see a Lightfield bot under External Connections (in a channel name that starts with ext-). These are shared external (Slack Connect) channels. Messaging the bot there will not work - the agent can't identify you through a shared external channel and will tell you your Slack account isn't connected, even when it is correctly connected in Lightfield.

If you get a "your Slack account isn't connected" message:

  • Check where you're messaging from. If it's a shared / external (ext-) channel or under External Connections, switch to the Lightfield app under Apps.

  • Open a direct message with the Lightfield bot from Apps and try again.

Common questions

Where do I connect Slack?

In two places in the Lightfield app: your admin connects the workspace in Settings → Integrations, then each user connects their own account in Settings → Notifications.

Where do I find the Lightfield bot in Slack?

After you connect your personal account, the Lightfield app appears under Apps in your Slack sidebar, and you'll get a welcome message. Open a DM with it there.

The Connect button on Notifications is greyed out. Why?

Your workspace admin hasn't connected Slack yet. Ask them to connect it in Settings → Integrations first.

The bot says my Slack account isn't connected, but I'm connected to Lightfield. Why?

You're most likely messaging the bot from a shared external (Slack Connect) channel or under External Connections instead of the Lightfield app under Apps. Move to the bot under Apps and try again. If it still doesn't work, reconnect your account in Settings → Notifications.

We connected Slack a while ago - do we need to do anything?

If you connected before the agent launched, an admin needs to click Update permission on the Slack integration in Settings → Integrations. This grants the extra permissions the agent needs without disconnecting your existing setup.

Can I use the agent in a channel?

Yes. Add the Lightfield bot to a channel and mention it, or message it directly from Apps for a private conversation.
