Troubleshooting workspace invitation and membership issues

If you're having trouble joining a workspace or inviting team members, there are several common scenarios that can cause these issues. Here's how to resolve them:

Can't join a workspace due to existing membership

Users can only belong to one workspace at a time. If you're unable to join a new workspace, you may already be a member of another workspace. This can happen even if you created a workspace accidentally or were previously invited to a different one.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Contact support to have your account removed from the old workspace

  2. Once removed, you'll be able to accept the new workspace invitation

Email address conflicts

Sometimes invitation issues occur when you have multiple email addresses or when an invitation was sent to a different email than the one connected to your existing account.

If this happens:

  1. Disconnect your email from your current workspace by going to Settings → Mail and Calendar → click the three dot icon next to "Connected" and disconnect account

  2. Ask the workspace admin to resend the invitation to your preferred email address

Duplicate workspace issues

If someone accidentally creates a duplicate workspace before being invited to the main team workspace, they won't be able to join the intended workspace even after deleting their duplicate.

To fix this:

  1. Contact support to fully remove the duplicate workspace from the system

  2. Wait about 15 minutes after support confirms the removal

  3. The workspace admin can then successfully send a new invitation

Expired or missed invitations

If you didn't respond to a Slack invitation in time or need it resent, simply contact support to have a new invitation sent to your email address.

When to contact support

Contact support if you encounter any of these situations:

  • You're stuck on a trial signup page and can't access workspace settings

  • You need to be removed from an old workspace

  • A duplicate workspace needs to be deleted from the system

  • You need a Slack invitation resent

  • You're getting error messages when trying to continue with workspace setup

Support can quickly resolve these membership conflicts and ensure you can join your intended workspace without issues.
